Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course

Safety is a priority at Sail Caribbean. To ensure that each program provides a safe learning experience for every student, Sail Caribbean has an intensive staff training session each year to cover various topics and scenarios. Each staff member is also required to have their CPR and Wilderness First Aid Certification.

For those uncertified, Sail Caribbean recently had its staff members attend a mandatory 2 day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course at a local college on Tortola. The course covered many topics that could be encountered on the open water when sailing in remote locations. Each staff member learned how to properly react and care for heat exhaustion, animal bites, significant wounds, and even major fractures. We are very confident that our staff is instilled with valuable knowledge and has the ability to provide a safe environment for every one of our sailing programs.

We would like to thank WFA instructors Dan Braun and Katie Chambless from Boulder, CO for flying down to the British Virgin Islands to educate our sailing counselors on Wilderness First Aid.
