2010 Premier's Cup

By wpdev August 7, 2010

This year’s Premier’s Cup took place from Friday, July 9th to Sunday, July 11th. There were 3 sessions with 5 races each session around a windward-leeward race course. Seven teams competed, and participating on the Sail Caribbean team (representing USA) was Olivia Damson, Issac Ohebshalom, Kevin Shahery, Harrison Thomison, and Bobby Hermann.

The group may have had limited experience on the IC24, but they worked hard together as a team in the Regetta to come in 6th place. The race committee congratulated the team on their improvements through each session. Coach Maria, the Sail Caribbean Sail Director and Basic Keelboat Instructor, was very proud for their teamwork, unwavering sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. With 4-5 foot seas and 20-25 knots of wind our crew was hauling through the waves and wind during each session. Harrison led his crew very well in such tough conditions. Kevin and Isaac also did very well at hauling in the jib sheets with each tack, while Olivia was quick to judge the changing wind conditions and boat activity on the course. Bobby was Harrison’s right hand man as he controlled the main sheet, a key activity in such challenging conditions.

After the final session all the teams came together for a BBQ and awards ceremony. Team Sail Caribbean was awarded the Spirit and Sportsmanship Award for their continued efforts out on the course and their positive attitude. Way to go team!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
