Alpha 1 2015 – Day 14

written by mate, Alex Armson

The end of a summer program is always a strange experience, as you say goodbye to the people you’ve shared every moment of the past two weeks with. You become a strange patch-work family in such a short space of time, where you overcome difficulties, fears and accomplish goals together. Departure day is a series of early wake ups and sleepy goodbyes, as more and more people return safely to their other homes. Before you know it, all is quiet and all that is left is the great memories and maybe a few stray pairs of flip flops.

It’s a great moment when you can look back to the very beginning of the journey and see how much each individual has learned, not just about sailing and diving, but about interacting with each other and working together to live cohesively in pretty close quarters. It has been fantastic to work with all of Alpha 1 this summer, and the Alpha team would like to thank each individual for all your amazing effort that you have put in to making our jobs worthwhile. We hope that you have enjoyed these past few weeks as much as we have, and that your knowledge of the oceans around you will continue to grow and become as much a part of your lives as it is of ours.

May fair winds guide you to many more adventures,

Alpha 1

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
