Foxtrot 1 & Sierra 1 Day 2: Off Docks and Raising the Sails!

Everyone awoke early this morning and pulled out a quick breakfast buffet of yogurts, cereal, and bagels. Students headed to the dive shop to get their dive photos taken and paperwork sorted. We all gathered on our boats to take a quick boat photo, and then spent the rest of the morning doing Prior to Firsts. Prior to Firsts are lessons we do with every group of students at Sail Caribbean before their first sail. This introduction to boat life sets up each student for success as they begin their adventures on board!
Captains of each boat gave their students a thorough dedocking lesson, and then Moselle and Spyglass, the two boats in our fleet, set sail for the first time! We got into the Sir Francis Drake Channel and learned how to raise sails. Moselle raised her main while Spyglass pulled out her jib – tomorrow we’ll get both sails up on both vessels!
We reached our destination for the evening of Manchioneel Bay on Cooper Island, and everyone enjoyed some hoagies for lunch. Open Water dive students and Advanced dive students headed ashore to start dive lessons for the afternoon. While Open Water students did a swim test and learned scuba kit assembly, advanced open water students got to go on a fun dive at Ginger steps, a site notable for its black tip reef shark population! Nondivers spent the afternoon snorkeling at Cistern reef and relaxing on the boats, snacking and playing cards.
Everyone returned to their home boat in the evening and prepared dinner: Burritos! Following a thorough dinner clean, we all settled down for a boat meeting where we got to know each other a little better by playing some get-to-know you games. Everyone settled down for the evening after a successful day 2, ready for another great day tomorrow!
