Delta 1 Day 9: Down Island Departure Day!

Today, we had a sleep-in before a relaxed morning b’fast of egg muffins…. Cass, our Program Director, gathered out passports and headed off to the Immigration and Customs Department to officially check us, and our boats, out of the BVI.
While she was gone, we started preparing the boats for tonight’s passage. We stowed everything that was on a horizontal surface, raised and lashed our dinghy on board, pre-cooked dinner (which will be eaten underway tonight!), talked about engine failure in case of emergency procedures, latitude and longitude navigation fixing on a chart, interpreting night lights on vessels underway, went through the ‘puking plan’ procedures (for possible seasickness), hydrated, watered, fueled….and did a million, million other things getting ready to go!
By 3p.m., we were happily on the docks, life-jackets on and ready to depart!
Our next journey will be roughly 100 nm, and take us ESE to the Leeward Islands, specifically St Martin, where we plan to arrive tomorrow midday through late afternoon. Overnight, a VERY special occasion will happen at exactly midnight – Not only will it become the 4th of July… but also it’s another camper’s birthday! We can’t wait to celebrate in such a unique way with Mark from the Meursault crew who will be turning 16!
