Gray McKenna
Program Director
Gray’s passion for outdoor education started at with a summer internship at Sail Caribbean in 2015, and continues to this day! Gray holds a B.S. in Marine Biology from Northeastern University, and has taken classes and done research diving in all sorts of marine environments, from the Gulf of Maine to the Caribbean, and from the Puget Sound & Salish Sea down to the Panamanian Pacific. Gray loves bringing their experience to Sail Caribbean’s engaging marine science curriculum. They are an avid mariner, and have spent a season as a deckhand & educator onboard the 103 year old schooner Adventuress, facilitating environmental & sailing education trips in the Puget Sound. After this summer season, Gray will return to the Good Ship Adventuress as a relief engineer. Gray plays guitar, banjo, and ukulele, and loves to bring music aboard the boats at Sail Caribbean.
Adam Grant
Fleet Captain
Adam is an outdoor education guide, having worked in the outdoor industry all over the world and for the last 5 years in Australia and Ireland. He has worked for various summer camps and has instructed kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and rock climbing. Adam grew up in Ireland and has a diploma in outdoor education in which he learned various skills required to teach using the medium of the outdoors, with 5 years of yacht sailing with a day skipper license. For the past year Adam has been working in Australia providing outdoor education for schools across the country.
Allie Faulkner
Provisions Manager
Allie Faulkner grew up in Austin, Texas and now attends The University of Texas at Austin as a marketing student within the McCombs School of Business. Allie grew up going to the beach for family vacation, and after vacationing in Tortola the past couple years, she fell in love with the beauty of the BVIs. Allie has lots of experience working with kids as she has been a counselor at two different summer camps, worked at the nursery at her church and was a nanny for three fun girls. She currently works as a dance instructor and is also a marketing intern for a global cloud hosting provider. After graduation in a year, Allie plans on attending culinary school and hopes to work on private boats as a chef and one day own her own restaurant. When she isn’t working or studying, Allie loves exploring all Austin has to offer with her friends.
Liz Deveau
Captain of Salome
Liz grew up in a small town on the North shore of Massachusetts where she began sailing at 8 years old at the local yacht club. She was on the sailing team at the University of New Hampshire where she earned degrees in Marine Biology and English Literature. Liz is joining us for a fourth summer, escaping the bitter cold, rough seas, and southward migrating floating ice packs of the Bering Sea where she works during the rest of the year in fisheries management data collection through NOAA. Liz is a fish lover and karaoke enthusiast who can’t wait to find out what kinds of laughs and adventures this summer will bring!
Claire Lennarz
Captain of Hully Gully
Claire is finishing her second year at the University of Virginia where she is majoring in architecture. She grew up in Williamsburg, VA, but has spent her summers racing Optimists and Lasers in regattas up and down the East Coast. For the past three summers, she has shared her love for racing by coaching Optimists on the Chesapeake Bay. On her days off during the summer, she was able to enjoy water skiing, wake boarding and paddle boarding with her family’s three water-loving dogs! In Charlottesville, when she escapes from the A-School, Claire frequents the farmers market, local concerts, and enjoys discovering new restaurants. This summer, she can’t wait to share her love for sailing and other water activities with all of you!
Luka Walshe
Captain of Paso Doble
Luka is joining us for his second year at Sail Caribbean, having completed a three year Higher National Diploma in Outdoor Adventure Management, in 2017 where he learned to teach sailing, windsurfing and whitewater kayaking from some of Ireland’s most experienced outdoor leaders. Luka has a wealth of experience teaching and instructing in many outdoor sports, including leading wilderness canoe trips in Canada, raft guiding and kayaking on Irish rivers and seas, sailing and windsurfing in Corsica and up and down Ireland’s west coast. Luka is a big believer in self-development and experiential learning, and has a passion for teaching and sharing outdoor sports with others.
Zoe Leech

Zoe has been living her passions all around the world for the past 7 years! As a SCUBA Dive Instructor / Snowboard Instructor she gets the best of both worlds. Sharks are her spirit animal.
Meredith Davies
Mate of Hully Gully
Meredith is a rising junior at Rhodes College. She studies Environmental Studies and plans on perusing a master’s degree in Marine Conservation. She is on the varsity swim team as well as an active member in her sorority Tri Delta. Meredith found her passion for the ocean, sailing, and scuba diving during her summers as a Sail Caribbean student in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, she interned at Cape Eleuthera Institute at the Island School studying southern stingrays in the Bahamas as well as conservation methods. She returned to Sail Caribbean as a student on the Ocean program and as a Mate in Training in the 2017 season. She is thrilled to back at Sail Caribbean for this summer to encourage kids like her to find their love for the ocean and the environment and to make new memories with her Sail Caribbean family!
Julia Malone
Mate of Paso Doble
Born and raised in a family that regularly moved homes and always cherished the outdoors, Julia became infatuated with and very accustomed to the lifestyle of outdoor adventure. Whether it was riding dirt bikes and mountain bikes with her brother and dad or hiking mountains and snorkeling oceans with family or friends, she learned that she needed to pursue a long term life and career in the great outdoors. Now entering her senior year at the University of Florida, Julia is finishing up two bachelor’s degrees – one in Environmental Science and the other in Psychology. She is currently certified as a Scientific Diver and plans to use her degrees and Scuba certifications to conduct underwater research on coral reefs, once out of undergrad. After participating in Sail Caribbean’s Mate-In-Training program last year and graduating to work as staff, Julia is excited to return again this year for another summer full of learning and adventures!
Adam Collins
Mate-In-Training
Adam is currently enrolled as a sophomore at Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu where he studies Business Marketing with a minor in Digital Distribution. Beginning in 2015, Adam spent two years as a student at Sail Caribbean. The Sail Caribbean program initially attracted Adam because of his strong interest in marine biology and ended up sparking a strong passion for diving. Adam took a year off from school to complete his Dive Master certification in Australia. Following his time spent “down under”, he proceeded to travel and work in several different marine science research stations around the world mainly focusing his work on large cetaceans and Chondrichthyes. With language proficiency extending to French and sarcasm, Adam is always ready for an impromptu dance party or a cappella jam session. Some of Adam’s most fond memories are his first night dives at the site known as the Indians or hanging out with his friends at the Baths.
