Welcome to the Alpha & Tango 2 Trip Updates! Monday, Day 1, staff finished preparing the boats while students arrived from all around the world to Tortola. The boats were fueled, water tanks were filled, and every salon, deck, and cabin was cleaned!
On Monday evening, students ate a hearty dinner of cheesy potatoes, veggies, chicken, rice, and pizza. They put their bags in their cabins and set up for the first night of boat life.
On Tuesday morning, students woke up at 7:00 and had a breakfast buffet of cereal, yogurt, bagels, and more. They started Prior to Firsts, which included lessons on the different parts of the boat. They saw the engine and learned how to check the oil, were taught how the winches worked, and were given a tour of all the interior of the boats.
After prior to firsts, students visited the Sail Caribbean Divers dive shop and got all they needed for SCUBA diving!
At 10:30, all students gathered outside the office for the Mike Talk, where camp director Mike Liese introduced himself and outlined expectations for the two weeks ahead. After the Mike Talk, boats ate lunch and completed their first pre-departure checks!
Then, they set off for their first sail!!
By 4:00 pm, boats were anchored at beautiful Lee Bay. Jelly checks and swim tests were conducted before the first ocean shower demos! After all this was done, students prepared and ate dinner together with their boat mates.
All in all, a wonderful beginning to Alpha & Tango 2’s!!
