Meriel Medina

Mate & Dive Instructor

Meriel is a dive instructor, marine conservationist, and adventure enthusiast hailing from the all too landlocked hills of Austin, Texas. Becoming a junior open water diver at just 10 years old, it was clear from the start that the ocean was going to play a key role in her life. Meriel herself was a participant in a program just like Sail Caribbean for two summers growing up, and she is ecstatic to be returning to the magical British Virgin Islands to change teens’ lives for the better, just as hers was. During college, Meriel alternated between semesters spent studying and summers pursuing dive qualifications and conservation experience in Utila, Honduras at Bay Islands College of Diving and the Whale Shark and Oceanic Research Center. Following her graduation in 2023 from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Environmental Sciences, Meriel returned to Utila one more time (because you simply cannot stay away from this island!) to obtain the long-awaited PADI Instructor qualification. With her degree and instructor certification in hand, she traveled to Indonesia to continue her diving journey with Indo Ocean Project in Bira, Sulawesi right in the heart of the Coral Triangle, the most biodiverse reef ecosystem in the world. Meriel’s excitement for life and diving is infectious, and you will find an eager instructor, mentor, and friend in her at Sail Caribbean. She cannot wait to meet all of you new adventurers!
