A-Staff Training Day 10

Hello everyone! Campers are arriving so soon, but we still managed to pack a lot into Day 10. We woke up bright and early at 6:30 and started the day with yogurt parfaits before shuttling ashore for an 8:30 dive meeting.

The staff was split up based on experience. Since I had never gone diving before, I got to do a discovery dive! We headed into shallow waters just off the beach, where I learned the basics from my wonderful instructor, Mere. She taught me everything I needed to know, and I had such a great time. I’m really hoping to get my dive certification this summer!

Afterward, we were moored next to Mile Hi (the other staff boat). We took showers, cleaned our boats, and started a staff meeting. During that meeting, we had the most realistic safety protocol simulation — I won’t spoil too much, but I will say that our staff jumped into action impressively fast. VISAR (Virgin Islands Search and Rescue) even came aboard to explain what they do and how we can respond best in serious situations. It was intense, but super valuable (and pretty exciting!).

After all the chaos had settled, we went ashore to relax and reflect on how we’re feeling about the summer ahead and the arrival of campers. We’ve learned so much in the past 10 days, and if there’s one thing I’ve realized, it’s that days here are never dull.
