A-Staff Training Day 3

This is Lilly S., Mate/Captain this summer, coming to you on our third day of Staff Training A. We woke up at 6:30 AM in Marina Cay and had pancakes for breakfast, made by our new pals Izzy and Paton on our catamaran, Mile Hi.

After breakfast, we all went ashore to work on team-building and teaching techniques. We used creative visual methods to practice and learn how to become the best teachers for our future campers. Onshore, we had to really dig deep and think about the teachers who inspired us—and how to translate that inspiration into engaging lessons.

When we got back to the boats, we packed up to go snorkeling at Diamond Reef nearby. We saw lots of fish and even some fire coral woohoo! After snorkeling, we had sandwiches for lunch, then prepared to leave Marina Cay and head to White Bay on Guana Island. Along the way, we had a few lessons on navigation with charts, points of sail, and I taught about tacking and jibing. The sail had some rain, but it was still beautiful.

We dropped anchor at White Bay and went for a quick swim before dinner and an all-staff meeting. For dinner, Katrina and I made Buddha bowls with chicken, quinoa, and sautéed vegetables. Afterward, we did our nightly boat clean-up and had our boat meeting. Now, we’re supposed to be winding down for bed, but we’re too caught up in a game we’ve been playing lately called Psychiatrist.

Another big day is ahead of us, and we’ll keep you posted!
