Arrivals day! Our staff has been patiently waiting for this day to come and to finally meet our Alpha 2 campers. Everyone woke up early that morning to get ready for the busy day ahead. Half of the staff headed out to provision each boat with everything we’d need for the next two weeks, while the other half made their way to the airport to greet our first arrivals.
As we watched each student walk down the airport hallway, we saw their eyes widen with curiosity and excitement. We waved our Sail Caribbean flags, called out to them, and welcomed them with big smiles and cheers. Before long, everyone had arrived, introductions were made, and our group was ready to begin the adventure.
Once we gathered all of the campers, we headed to the ferry bound for Tortola. Our travels went swimmingly, and before we knew it we had hopped into taxis to make our way to The Moorings, where the rest of the staff was eagerly waiting for us. As we pulled in, we were greeted by even more waving Sail Caribbean flags, smiling faces, and enthusiastic cheers, making for a warm welcome after a long day of travel.
The campers were immediately introduced to the captain and crew they will be sailing with for the remainder of the program. Together they headed to their boats, got settled in, and received a briefing on boat rules, safety, and what life aboard would look like over the next two weeks. With the important information covered, it was finally time for everyone to freshen up with a well-earned shower.
Afterward, a delicious BBQ dinner was waiting for them. On the menu were hamburgers and jerk chicken fresh off the grill, served alongside corn on the cob and Greek salad. It was the perfect meal to end a long day of traveling and meet everyone from the other boats.
As the evening came to a close, the students began winding down and finished the night with a boat meeting alongside their crew before heading to bed. Tomorrow the real adventure begins! We are so excited to finally have our campers here and can’t wait to create unforgettable memories with them over the next two weeks.
