We started the day at Trellis. We had an exciting start to the morning when we found a message in a bottle! Then we had a great talk with Bronte, our Marine Science and Diving Coordinator, on some marine life we have in the area, how to rate the health of a snorkel site, and the best methods for managing large groups of kids snorkeling.
Then, all of STB motored to The Baths. We all got in our snorkel gear and hopped in for a group snorkel. We rated the snorkel site on the CHAD scale, which determines the coral health, human impact, abundance, and diversity of life found at the site. We found the site quite healthy and rated The Baths 16/20!
Following the snorkel, we went ashore for a hike that followed the coastline and weaved through massive boulders creating cave-like structures. Back on the boats, we prepped for challenge day, where all of STB sailed unassisted to our next mooring spot at Cooper Island.
We concluded the day with an emergency response scenario, working with VISAR to ensure we are as prepared as possible for any emergency that may arise. The day was filled with learning and team bonding over the sail and emergency scenario!
