Hi! My name is Paton Janz, and I’m a dive instructor and mate on the vessel Y’Nissy. Today is Day 16 of the Mega Program, and we only have five days left!
Our captain Izzy and fellow mate Molly are leading the oldest boat in the fleet, full of amazing 15 to 18 year old students.
Today was definitely one to remember. We started the morning with a delicious breakfast of pancakes with Nutella and bacon, served up by Ines and Audrey. Two of our crew shipped off for a morning of diving on some of the most pristine reefs in the Caribbean, while the rest of the crew enjoyed a relaxing morning — reading, tubing, and hanging out with friends on other boats.
Lunch was a hit, thanks to James and Sam, who made flavorful rice bowls packed with protein and veggies. After lunch and cleanup, we completed our PDCs (pre departure checks), dropped the mooring ball, and set sail for Soper’s Hole.
With two full weeks of sailing experience, the crew raised the sails like pros. Our skipper Heidi got us underway with ease, and the boat worked like a well oiled machine. Everyone pitched in, gave each other tips, and shared knowledge as we cruised through a smooth downwind sail full of jibing and great music.
We docked at Soper’s Hole with no problem, then jumped right into a thorough deep clean of Y’Nissy. Once we passed our boat inspection, we got some well earned shore time in the beautiful dock town. Everyone explored the local shops, grabbed ice cream, and caught up with friends over burgers and wings.
As the sun began to set, we returned to the boat to prep dinner for those who didn’t eat on shore. Then it was time for the Bake Off Challenge. Everyone teamed up to make brookies, and while we didn’t win, my very biased opinion says we absolutely should have.
After treating ourselves to some well-earned sweets, we powered down, made our sleeping arrangements, and reflected on another incredible day in the BVI. Y’Nissy is ready for whatever tomorrow brings!
