Today, we had the amazing opportunity to explore the mangroves of Tortola with a local guide named Alex. We hopped into tandem kayaks and paddled through the winding waterways while learning all about the mangrove ecosystem and its rich history.

Along the way, we spotted a lemon shark and tons of upside-down jellies floating beneath the surface. We also got to plant mangrove propagules in areas most affected by Hurricane Irma — doing our part to help restore this important environment.
Hailey said seeing the sharks was the best part of her day, especially while kayaking with Emerson. Myles, who was a camper last year, remembered so much from Alex’s tour that he even helped give some lessons on the mangroves! Heidi and Evelyn held an upside-down jelly and said it was super slimy, while Kadence shared that it was peaceful and fascinating to learn directly from locals.
All in all, it was a fun, educational, and meaningful experience.
