What a day! Day 19 was filled with smiles, laughter, sunshine, and good vibes. We started our day in beautiful Little Harbour, on Peter Island. Little Harbour is an all around favourite spot in the BVIs. The water is so clear and calm, and the wildlife was definitely out to play.
Today was Challenge Day! This means the students completely take over the boats and show us all the skills they’ve learned over the past 18 days, raising and lowering sails, assigning roles and positions, managing boat cleanup, anchoring up, and mooring, to name a few. On Newton’s Law, Michael and Mason were our skipper and navigator of the day. Our dynamic duo from New York. Go Knicks!
While at Little Harbour, we did watersports and Colgating. Foxtrot and Sierra students went turtling on the RIB to Great Harbour. They spotted three turtles, but unfortunately there was no tagging today due to pink meanie jellyfish. Still such an awesome opportunity to learn more about the turtles from our marine science coordinator, Bronte, who just arrived. Zoe, Pippa, Michael, John, Mason, and Lane crushed it on the tube. Impressive stuff!
After watersports, Zoe, Pippa, and Lane all completed their ASA practical exams on the Colgate. They each skippered maneuvers including a tack, a jibe, and a man overboard drill!
After Colgating, we set sail for Trellis Bay. Mason and Michael led the way, and we had a great, relaxing sail. It’s incredible to see how much the students have learned and how much their confidence has grown.
Once at Trellis Bay, we celebrated our successful day with a dance party and started dinner prep. We’ll end the night with a boat meeting and some games. We’re already sad to leave the family we’ve created here, but excited to see our own family, friends, and pets soon!
