My name is Reagan and I am a mate on Stella Maris! Today was day three of program and we woke up at 7 am at White Bay, Guana Island. For breakfast, Margaret-May and Oscar cooked us eggs and toast, and the whole boat loved it. After breakfast clean, we did pre-departure checks, dropped the mooring ball, and began our motor to Cooper Island.
Underway, the kids learned how to pick up a mooring ball at Cooper, and we assigned positions. Oscar was our spotter, Kadence was our relay, and Rohin and Vera threaded the lines. We picked up the ball on the first try—WOHOO! After settling in, Rohin and Gavin cooked grilled cheese and tomatoes for lunch, and we got divers ready to head to shore.
Open Water, Advanced Open Water, and Rescue Divers were shuttled to shore to start their certifications. Oscar, Vera, Liza, and Margaret-May were brought to Y-Nissy to get ready for water sporting and Colgating. At 1:45, I took Vera, Sophia F, and Onye on the Colgate. They all took turns on the tiller and did an AMAZING job steering under sail! After many high fives and good music, we headed back into Cooper. During this time, other watersports were happening—there was tubing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding.
After divers, watersporters, and Colgaters came back to boats, we had swimmie fun time before starting showers. Sierra and Foxtrot kids came to Stella Maris for a Marine Biology staff introduction, and we started dinner prep after they left. Vera and Arden made burritos for dinner, and they were SO good. The whole crew chipped in to make the boat sparkling clean.
By 7 o’clock, all the kids were sitting together at the helm, waiting for Captain Dylan to come back with the schedule. During boat meeting, we covered the plans for tomorrow, played the game Wavelength, and had Oreos before powering down and heading to bed. Good night from all crew on Stella Maris!!
