MEGA FLEET Day 7- Bravo 1, Charlie 1, Foxtrot 1, Sierra 1

This morning, we woke up at Nanny Cay to the sound of roosters and the smell of eggs cooking, thanks to Spencer and Ryan. They whipped up a Sail Caribbean style frittata with shredded cheese and sliced ham. After breakfast, our open water divers, Eme and Noah, headed off to complete their third and fourth dives of the course.

While they dove, we started breakfast clean up, filled up on water, and completed our pre departure checks. Soon after, we were joined by some of the crew from Y Nissi. We reviewed our dedocking procedures and created a plan to leave the docks. Once the plan was in place, our skipper of the day, Sophia, called for the dockhands to strike our lines, and we made our way out of the channel.

Under the guidance of returner campers from Y Nissi, we raised both our main and jib sails and set off toward Deadman’s Cay. The sail was a blast—we flew across the Sir Francis Drake Channel at a top speed of 9 knots in 20 knot winds. The Y Nissi crew even made breakfast underway and kindly shared it with the Nohea Holokai team. Shoutout to Sam, Myles, Sebastian and Charlotte for being especially helpful throughout the sail.

We jammed to classic rock hits and debated who the better guitarist was, Cream’s or Dire Straits’. After what I’d say was the best sail of the program so far, we dropped the sails and made our way into Deadman’s Bay, picking up a mooring ball to the tune of Just the Two of Us. We enjoyed the moment together before the Y Nissi crew returned to their boat.

Lunch prep was led by Ryan, who put together a refreshing pasta salad. Spencer later headed off to dive with other Charlie Program students. After lunch, we cleaned up and swam in the lively waters. There were also chances to go tubing and wakeboarding, and Sophia even got to try a Discover Scuba Dive!

We wrapped up the afternoon with showers and a brief staff meeting, during which I stayed back to advocate for getting some of our minor boat issues fixed. Dinner was a delicious pasta with parmesan and broccoli made by Myles. After dinner, we did our nightly boat clean and dove into boat meeting with Bourbon cream chocolate cookies and a few rounds of Hot Seat, which helped us get to know each other even better.

We capped off the night with a stunning sunset, an absolutely perfect ending to an amazing day.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
