Long Bay to Hodges Creek Marina via the Baths

Early this morning, staff motored the boats to the Baths, and the students on Spyglass woke up mid-channel, halfway there! Meredith and Abbey made everyone chocolate chip pancakes underway for our last breakfast at sea, and they were amazing. Abbey was our skipper, and she used the throttles to line up a perfect final mooring ball approach. Once moored, we ate some more pancakes, and did a little boat cleaning before we all swam to shore for a Sail Caribbean favorite – the hickle!

Once ashore, Ish, our Fleet Captain, gave all the students a geology lesson, and we learned about the formation of the Baths and all the Caribbean islands. Then we started hiking through the Baths, carrying our snorkel gear, with Andrew and Tyler in the lead of the group. At the end, all four of our girls, Addie, Abbey, Meredith, and Sara, posed for some pictures on top of the rocks. Then we snorkeled back towards Jump Rock. Henry and Ben spotted a peacock flounder, and Will went through an awesome swim through. At the end of the snorkel, we reached Jump Rock, a rock that all the students climb up and, as the name suggests, jump off. Henry was one of the first students to jump off, and he went for a zen cross-legged pose. Will and Ben did flips, and Tyler and Sara went for classic cannonballs. Miss You‘s mate, KB, did her signature move – the twizzle – and it was a particularly glorious spin. Finally, we all headed back to boats for lunch, a final Caribbean swim, and to drop the mooring ball.

We cruised into Hodges Creek Marina with Abbey on the helm again, and she docked us perfectly with the help of her well-trained crew. Then, we set about writing airplane letters, working on our skits, and our Sierra students finished their projects. We had a delicious dinner of rotis, and pretty soon, it was time for presentations, skits and awards. We all gathered round and Addie, Abbey, Andrew, and Meredith presented their coral cover research project to the fleet. Then Ben, Gillie, Frankie, and Jack presented their fish diversity project to everyone. Next came skits, which were hilarious all around. Finally, Jen, our amazing Program Director, gave out the final awards. Spyglass won Olympics tug of war and dizzy fender, and best chili challenges. Miss You won frattiest chili – best theme. I Am Free won tastiest chili, best presentation, and Olympics sand art. Each student passed the crew exam and received a bracelet in recognition. After, we headed back to boats for a final boat meeting. On Spyglass, we talked about what we learned from the trip and our favorite things about each person on the boat. It was a really nice conclusion to an amazing program and an amazing summer.
