Foxtrot 1 & Sierra 1 2015 – Day 8

Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour to Saba Rock, North Sound

This morning began with a much needed lie in. The breakfast prep on both boats whipped up French Toast for their crew mates with cinnamon being sprinkled and syrup poured. At 10a.m., the fleet left docks together. Emily was at the helm of Spyglass and successfully de-docked the new boat with the help of Mayra, Kayla and David on dock lines.

Everyone arrived at The Dogs at 11a.m. with a green turtle welcoming them to a great snorkel site! Nico, Liam and Aidan were eager to jump in the water and help lead Project Reef. Several scrawled file fish were spotted by Alejandro, David and Matt and also an abundance of sergeant majors were seen by everyone! After a fun snorkel, the crew of Spyglass had worked up an appetite and inhaled the fresh hoagies made by lunch prep. After a quick clean up, we departed The Dogs and set sail for The Bitter End.

The new sails were put to the test with the wind gusting at 20 knots, but the Skipper of the day, Emily had no problems. She also had the help of Nico and Liam who took turns at the helm. Once we arrived safely at the Bitter end, we headed to Prickly Pear for an awesome Marine Science lesson on Mangroves, and then did some community service by collecting trash hidden in the mangroves and along the beach. Kayla and Mayra found some really cool shells while Mayra and Aidan found an abandoned, deflated dingy.

After the clean up, both Foxtrot and Sierra returned to their boats. Alejandro had a fantastic idea to have a cannonball competition with everyone taking turns jumping off the boat! Matt made one of the biggest splashes, while Liam showed off some impressive jumping skills. After multiple jumps, dinner was ready and everyone sat down for a delicious sweet and sour meal.

When dinner clean-up was finished, a social began onshore at Saba Rock. Mayra, Emily and Kayla shared a chocolate moose while the boys all ordered a smoothie and chocolate fudge cake! After everyone had satisfied their sweet-tooth, we all returned to the boats, stomach’s full and eyes tired. The day ended with a short boat meeting and then straight to bed! It was a long day packed full of exciting activities and learning opportunities for everyone to enjoy and experience.
