Alpha Day 5
Hello again from the sunny Caribbean seas!
Sesno here, reporting back yet another successful day full of activities and new adventures.
Today began with exhilarating rides on our banana boat and wave jumping tube, one towed by the operations manager Perry and the other by our very own Alpha captain Phil. I was lucky enough to witness (and snap some shots) people zipping by the boats with huge smiles on their faces.
Everybody got a chance to enjoy the thrill of watersports, both in the morning and afternoon. After tiring
ourselves out on the tubes, we eagerly prepared to set sail to our next destination of Little Harbor.
During this sail, we learned about reefing, a technique used to sail in stronger winds, and anchoring. We got to practice anchoring just before a delicious lunch of pizza bagels.
The Divers picked our open water SCUBA students up to head over to Norman Island, where the last of the confined water sessions took place. Underwater, Gabriel, Max and Patrick make quite the trio, spotting out sting rays, cleaning up litter, and mastering the skills. Aside from also perfecting their skills, the other group of open water students, Lily, Matteo, Annabelle and Kate, continued to try to learn Mickael’s French accent.
While we were out diving, the rest of the students got a lesson on Fish Identification from Meg and went for a snorkel with data collection slates to mark down the abundance and diversity of the fish species they saw. When I asked them about the snorkel, I got huge smiles and excited nods that it was amazing! Both on Sao Jorge and on Venture, the groups worked together to make amazing dinners of baked ziti, each with their own unique flavoring.
Once both boats were cleaned, everyone settled in for a boat meeting to talk about the days events. After a busy and full day of activities, we were all tired and ready to sleep, anxious to recharge and awake ready for another day of excitment!
