Early Alpha Day 3: Exploring Salt Island

Day 3 of program got off to a great start this morning after a 7:00 am wake up call followed by a delightful breakfast buffet. As soon as breakfast was finished, we dropped the ball and headed over to Salt Island for a hike! Tripp did a wonderful job at the helm anchoring us in the bay with Shay operating the windlass on the bow before we headed ashore for the hike. While on the hike, we got a glimpse of the dive site for the wreck of the HMS Rhone and also a stellar view of the Sir Francis Drake Channel from the top of the island. We even saw some goats on the way up!

After lunch, the students who weren’t diving headed  over to Cistern Rock for a snorkel. On the snorkel, Sofi and Anna saw a ton of marine life! Kat even swam with a turtle for a bit! When we got back to the boat Shay and Macy made some amazing guacamole that was a huge hit with everyone, and Patrick dove down from the stern of the boat to retrieve a t-shirt that had gone overboard. Griffin discovered the BEST gluten free brownies he’d ever had in his life on shore in the afternoon, and Tucker was overjoyed with his purchase of a tropical smoothie. It was the student’s first confined water dives of program, so Josh and Issy got to take their first ever breaths underwater!

When the divers returned, we headed back to boats for a delicious steak stir-fry dinner before heading back to shore for a social at the restaurant where the students enjoyed drinks and desserts on the beach! Overall, it was a fantastic day and we are looking forward to heading to the Bight on Norman Island to continue our adventure in the morning!
