Delta 1 Day 8: Discovering A New Anchorage for Sail Caribbean!

Today, we pulled up the anchor and got an early start to get to Bitter End Yacht Club!

On the way, we also had a spot of unplanned adventure when, while under engine, a malfunction of the electrical anchor remote caused us to deploy our anchor! We eased off on the motor and found ourselves happily and safely set to anchor outside the bay in 60 ft of water! Everyone got involved in hand hauling in the rode and chain and getting the anchor back on board. With the anchor safely back on board, we tied a line to keep it from jumping.

After much discussion, we decided that although it was a nice anchorage, and we were certainly the first Sail Caribbean boat to anchor there – it was perhaps one that we would not choose to use again!

Once at the Bitter End, we met up with Charlie, Bravo, Sierra and Foxtrot programs, where we all got to hang out, play beach sports and activities, wake board, Poparazzi, hike, swim and also take out both Hobie Cats and the 420 dinghies to race about the bay. Bitter End day is one of Sail Caribbean’s favorite days of every program as there is so much to do all around the resort!

In the evening, we had CHILLI COOKOFF! Our guest Chileans arrived to sample both boats’ delicious creations and later in the program, we will announce which of the two crews was the winner under the criteria of best ‘plop’, (when held from a height and dropped back into the bowl – an important chill quality), taste and smell.

After a boat meeting, we headed to bed….working towards a good night sleep in advance of our upcoming night sails!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
