Day thirteen started with a magical sun rise on another sensational day in the BVI. We awoke in Dead Man’s Bay and started the morning with rotations of turtling sessions. We caught a small green turtle that had not been tagged or documented before by ARK (Association of Reef Keepers) which is a special treat. ARK is an organization that we work with that engages in conserving and protecting the reefs of the BVI and around the world.

We up-anchored and started are upwind sail to Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor. While underway, we learned a life saving skill called a man-overboard. We also refreshed ourselves on past lessons and practiced skills like raising and lowering sails, tacking and even a docking lesson as we were heading to docks the evening.

As we arrived in VGYH, our attention turned to cleaning inspection and having the boat in sparkling shipshape. After the boats passed inspection, there was phone time to call home to loved ones. Following the phone time, there was a lesson for our Sierra students on fish physiology and a dissection of a lionfish. After showers and dinner ,each boat checked in for a nightly boat meeting reflecting on another adventurous day in the BVI.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
