MEGA Day 19

Hi there! This is Bronte reporting from Staff Boat.

Today we woke up at Jost Van Dyke, still buzzing from our night of dancing and delicious food at Sydney’s. On Staff Boat, we could smell the incredible breakfasts being made on the Sail Caribbean boats surrounding us — the perfect way to start the day.

We got everything ready for… drum roll, please… the Sail Caribbean Olympics! After doing PDCs, every boat motored about 10 minutes to a small, beautiful island across from us called Sandy Cay.

Once there, everyone swam to shore, covered themselves in colorful zinc, created chants, and dove headfirst into the team spirit. The events included tug-of-war, the dizzy fender challenge, burying teammates in the sand, and more. Energy and laughter filled the beach as each boat brought their A-game.

As the Olympics came to a close, Sierra and Foxtrot students all piled into Betty’s Dream to sail over to Long Bay ahead of the rest of the fleet. At Long Bay, Sierra and Foxtrot got to meet with an organization called Green VI, which is a local non-profit dedicated to the environment.

We did a beach clean up, focusing on collecting small plastics before they could break down into even tinier microplastics. Afterward, we sorted through what we collected and recorded data — counting amounts, brands, types, and organizing them into categories.

Then the rest of the fleet sailed over to join us. Everyone had swimmy fun time, visited other boats for play dates, and soaked in the final moments of another unforgettable day in the BVI.

I joined Nohea for dinner, where Sophi and Noah made really yummy burrito bowls. Then everybody did boat meeting and settled down for bed, ready for another great day ahead.
