Rise and shine! Our campers started the day with a delicious breakfast of avocado toast and eggs before heading out for their very first day on the water.

After breakfast, campers had the opportunity to visit the dive shop and get fitted with their gear for the weeks ahead. Before setting sail, all campers and staff gathered for a morning meeting to review camp logistics, safety procedures, and expectations for the voyage. Captains then led a hands-on lesson about how to de-dock safely, with every camper assigned an important role in getting their boat out of the marina.

Once everyone was ready, the Sail Caribbean fleet set off in a line toward Marina Cay and Trellis. Along the way, campers jumped right into life aboard, taking turns raising the mainsail, steering the boat, and cranking the winches. While some crew members were on watch, others prepared tasty ham-and-cheese sandwiches for lunch, keeping everyone fueled for the adventure ahead.

As Marina Cay came into view, it was time for the exciting challenge of picking up a mooring ball. At the captain’s call of “Get into position!” everyone sprang into action. Oren took the lead with the boat hook, and after a few attempts, success! Third time was the charm.

With the boat securely moored, campers completed their official swim test before enjoying dinner and reflecting on an action-packed first day. After a day full of learning, teamwork, and new experiences, everyone was ready to turn in for a well-earned night of rest.
