Day 8:

Written by Molly Simon, Mate

Today we woke up at Lee Bay to a challenge day! We ate a quick breakfast before the campers teamed up as a crew to up-anchor the boat all by themselves. We then started our sailing journey to Anegada and raised our sails. After a 4 hour sail, we finally reached the bright light blue waters of Anegada. The crew drove through the channel and moored all by themselves. We debriefed the sail and got ready to head to shore. On shore we stopped at a beach and did a beach clean and found lots of trash! We then headed to Loblolly and had a truck tour on the way. We spent time with the fleet and had great food, drinks, and ice cream. After, we stopped to see baby sharks and flamingos. We headed back to our boats and had shower time, dinner, and ended the night with a review of our day and how we conquered challenge day.

Today we started the day with breakfast buffet; an assortment of cereal, bagels, and oatmeal. Divers went ashore to Cooper Island Beach Club, while the rest of the students went to Salt Island for a hike. We reunited at Cooper Island for shore time. Students were able to buy souvenirs, ice cream, or just relax at the beach under the palm trees. After a long day of socializing, we returned to our home boats to shower and recharge for the next day of adventure. We closed out the day with boat meeting and well deserved cookies!

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
