Alpha 3 2018 Day 2 – Off Docks & Out On The Water!

This morning, we woke up bright and early to get ready for our first full day on our yachts! We enjoyed our first breakfast together, having our student crews try their hands at mastering the galley to prepare the meal themselves for the first time. After some nourishment to fuel us through the day ahead, students took turns visiting the Sail Caribbean Divers’ dive shop to do some last minute shopping and organizing final details regarding diving for those that chose the optional diving courses.
After, the crews sat eagerly to listen in on their prior-to-first-sail lesson which lead into a thorough understanding of de-docking their vessels for the first time from our Hodges Creek Marina docks. Three Alpha vessels then successfully relinquished their ties with land and headed onto the water where we raised and lowered our sails within the Sir Francis Drake channel.
The day’s destination was Cooper Island where we hung out on our boats and in the water once completing the Sail Caribbean swim test. While our open and advanced water divers headed to shore, the rest of the crews had the opportunity to snorkel at Cistern Rock and see a shark! Once the divers returned back to their home boats, it was time to learn how to ocean shower and begin a yummy dinner prep of burritos. We followed suit with a boat clean and boat meeting where we discussed the highs and lows of the day among our crew. When our eyes became heavy, we powered down finding our sleeping quarters for the evening, excited for what was to come tomorrow.
