We began the day at Hodges Creek Marina: students woke up excited to leave docks and begin their program! Our first destination is Cooper Island Beach Club. Here, students can go to shops, get ice cream, and divers began their skills to get their certifications! Open Water divers stayed on shore to take a test and do knowledge review, while all other divers went out to Ginger Steps to either fun dive or start skills underwater for specialties.

While the dive boat was out, all of our other students had the opportunity to go out on our basic keelboat, Opal Bella. They also got to enjoy kayaks, SUPs, and ice cream! When all of the divers returned, everyone headed back to boats for showers and dinner. The Chavo fleet enjoyed a delicious dinner of chicken burritos. At boat meeting, staff introduced our Ship’s Log. Mainly, our skipper of the day will write down the major events of the day so that when program is over, they can remember all the fun they’ve had! Students were in bed early because they were so excited to travel to Salt Island the next day for a morning hike before a day full of diving.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
