Day 8 The Bight to Hodges Creek

By wpdev July 22, 2014

Sophia Newport and Hadyn were the skippers of the day and took the crews on an upwind sail to Hodges Creek. Along the way the crews practiced their Man Overboard procedure. Dylan, Sophia Newport and Abbi all took a turn at the helm with Dylan picking it up on the first attempt. Ian, Haydn and Brandon were on the helm for God Speed Mary’s practice.

The two boats had great mooring ball pickups at Hodges Creek Marina before heading ashore. Kyra, Brandon, Holly, Aidan and Dylan took Opal Bella out for a sail while Jason took everyone else to explore in Road Town. They had ice cream and went shopping. When the Opal Bella crew had finished they took a truck ride into Road Town to join the others and head to the ice cream store.

The crews returned to Hodges for land showers (how glorious) and dinner of burritos before boat meeting. On board God Speed Mary the crew set personal goals for the rest of the program and for the next year while on Rioja they spoke about working together as a team and communicating with each other to resolve any problems that may arise.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
