As the sun rose over Anegada, a skipper, mate, and navigator from each crew came over to staff boat for a navigation briefing before setting sail on Challenge Day! Challenge Day is when the kids completely take over the boat and can only ask the mates and captain three questions. The campers usually love this day because it is a time for them to be leaders and show all of the skills they have learned. They did a great job, too, as every boat arrived at Trellis Bay on time.

Once at Trellis Bay on Beef Island, the campers enjoyed dipping into the refreshing water, doing some water sports, and going to shore. I got to see some of the kids go tubing on our fun new tube “The Poparazzi” which they loved! The other campers who went to shore shopped at a local store called Aragorn’s that sells local art, fun t shirts, jewelry, and much more.

Afterwards, the students and staff got ready for a dinner ashore. We went to a sushi restaurant on the beach and the campers loved the food and sodas that they all got. One student even said it is the best food they have ever eaten! At the restaurant, they hung out, played cards, took photos, and had a great last night on the boats as the sun set over the BVI.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
