It is the last full day of program and it is safe to say we are all feeling ‘senti’ (sentimental, in camper language) and we are starting to wrap things up here for the Delta 1s. Both crews started the day off right by making pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon, before heading out on the water to undergo their practical ASA certification tests on the Colgate 26 footers. Others took their ASA exams accompanied by staff onshore, and went to enjoy their last moments at the pool/beach at Scrub Island before we de-docked to head to Hodges Creek Marina on Tortola, our home base. On the way to Hodges, our crews goofed off together and savored their last sail together listening to music, dancing, and singing along to our favorite camp songs.

‘Hodges day’ is always a bittersweet day as campers begin to deep clean their boats for the last time and pack their belongings. Staff and students docked for the last time this program and debriefed the program as a whole. We discussed many things, such as, what went right? What went wrong? What can we do better on, what are we excelling at? Now that the Delta and Mega fleets are back together, staff got to reunite with some of their friends and campers got to see and meet other campers as well. We also reminisced on our favorite parts of camp and got started on Sail Caribbean end-of-camp traditions, such as Letters to Self, Airplane Letters, Skits, Superlatives, Slideshows, and more.

Tomorrow, the campers will say their last goodbyes and ‘see you laters’ and fly home after a fulfilling and successful program! We as staff will miss this bunch, and feel very fortunate to have been able to guide and mentor them this Delta program.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
