Sail Caribbean’s teen scuba camp is a full immersion into the underwater world, all while living aboard a sailing yacht in the British Virgin Islands.
Above water, you experience the thrill of sailing alongside experienced captains and mates, learning seamanship, responsibility, and collaboration. Below the surface, you will receive structured, safety-focused scuba training and real confidence underwater.
Sail Caribbean students leave with lifelong skills, internationally recognized certifications, and an unforgettable adventure that shapes who they are long after the sails come down.
Sail Caribbean Divers – Not Your Average Dive Shop
At Sail Caribbean, you will dive alongside Sail Caribbean Divers, a PADI 5-Star IDC Resort and premier dive operator in the British Virgin Islands. What truly sets Sail Caribbean Divers apart is their commitment to scuba safety and the depth of expertise on board.
Students benefit from low student-to-instructor ratios, top-tier dive equipment, and constant expert supervision, both on dedicated dive boats and throughout daily life aboard our fleet of catamarans. Just as importantly, students receive ongoing mentorship before, during, and after every dive.
Our team combines summer instructors who live and work onboard with the students, with our year-round dive professionals. All who bring advanced skills in marine biology, underwater photography, and technical diving.

Certifications You Can Earn
One of the coolest parts of Sail Caribbean’s teen scuba camp is that you don’t just leave with epic memories; you leave with globally recognized PADI certifications. PADI is the largest and most respected scuba training organization in the world, which means the certification card you earn is valid anywhere you dive in the future.
First-time divers usually jump right in to earn their PADI Open Water Diver certification. This is a lifelong, entry-level certification recognized worldwide.
Divers can continue their journey with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. This builds confidence and skill through hands-on “Adventure Dives” like buoyancy control and navigation, while also unlocking deeper dives and unforgettable experiences such as night dives.
If you enroll in our Charlie program or are hoping to dive as much as possible, Sail Caribbean offers a range of PADI Specialty courses, including:
- Wreck Diver
- Boat Diver
- Peak Performance Buoyancy
- Enriched Air (Nitrox)
- Deep Diver
- Fish Identification
…and more.
Charlie students can also earn their PADI Rescue Diver and PADI Emergency First Responder (EFR) training, learning how to prevent and manage dive emergencies through hands-on scenarios and expert instruction.
Lastly, for select students in the Lima Program, there’s even the opportunity to earn a first PADI Professional certification as a Divemaster. Students train intensively onboard, work closely with instructors, and assist with real Sail Caribbean Divers operations. This is an incredible step toward a future in diving.

The Diving: Exploring the BVI’s Underwater Museum
Diving in the British Virgin Islands feels like exploring a real-life underwater museum. Every site tells a story.
For naturalists… The BVI is packed with colorful, protected coral gardens teeming with marine life. Sites like Ginger Steps off Ginger Island (home to friendly resident reef sharks), Diamond Reef with its diverse fish life and underwater “treasure hunt,” and the reefs surrounding the Dog Islands offer something new on every dive.
For the adventurous…The BVI is world-famous for its wreck diving. Sites like the Willy T and Kodiak Queen are unforgettable, but the crown jewel is the legendary RMS Rhone. More than just a dive, this wreck is a story beneath the surface. Our instructors bring its history to life, making you feel less like a tourist and more like a marine archaeologist exploring the past.
With beauty comes responsibility. Respecting and protecting the marine environment is a core part of the teen scuba camp experience. Divers learn how to minimize their impact, care for reefs, and act as ocean stewards, both underwater and beyond. Through marine biology education and conservation-focused diving, students don’t just explore the ocean. They help protect it for the future.
Living on a Boat: Your Floating Dive Base
Your home for the program isn’t a dorm or a hotel, it’s a 45-50 ft sailing catamaran cruising through the British Virgin Islands. These boats are your floating dive base, which means no long commutes or early van rides.
Living on a boat is definitely cozy, but that’s what makes it awesome. Living in close quarters turns your boatmates into your crew fast. You cook together, clean together, sail together, and rely on each other both on deck and underwater.
After long days of diving, sailing, swimming, and exploring, nothing beats coming back to your own floating home. Falling asleep under the stars with the ocean rocking the boat.

Dive Days at Sail Caribbean
No two days at our teen scuba camp are the same, but every day is packed with adventure. As a scuba diver, your dive days might look something like this:
- Wake up to calm water and unreal views. After breakfast and morning boat chores, it’s time to prepare for the day. Before you know it, Sail Caribbean Divers’ boats pull alongside the fleet, and you hop aboard with your mask, fins, and snorkel in hand.
- Your instructors walk you through the plan for the day: dive skills to practice, safety briefings, points of interest, and what marine life you might spot. Then comes the best part, your giant stride into the blue.
- Between dives, you’ll swap tanks, debrief with instructors, snack, and cruise to the next site.
- After diving, you reunite with your crew, grab lunch, relax, and often sail to a brand-new destination or jump into water sports.
- As the sun starts to set, the focus shifts back to life on board. For students undertaking their Advanced Open Water certifications. There are opportunities to experience unforgettable night dives.
It’s active, hands-on, and sometimes challenging but incredibly rewarding. By the end of the day, you’ll be tired in the best possible way and already excited for whatever adventure tomorrow brings.
Life Skills & Growth From Teen Summer Scuba Camp
Ask any diver, and they’ll tell you scuba is about way more than fish and bubble rings. Scuba diving builds skills that stay with you long after the gear comes off.
When you dive, you’re responsible for your own life-support equipment. You learn how to set it up, check it, care for it, and trust it. That level of responsibility builds real maturity and focus. Underwater, clear communication matters, teamwork is everything, and looking out for your buddy isn’t optional. You learn to stay calm, problem-solve, and make smart decisions in a totally new environment.
Breathing underwater is a challenge at first, and conquering it is a huge confidence boost. Each dive pushes you slightly outside your comfort zone, and every success builds self-belief. Scuba is an extreme sport, and mastering it gives you a powerful sense of capability and independence. That growth doesn’t stop underwater. Life aboard a sailboat means you’re also part of a tight-knit crew. You share responsibility, support each other, and learn what it means to show up for a team every single day. The combination of diving and boat life creates exponential growth, both as an individual and as a crew member.
