This morning got off to a wonderful start on docks at Hodges Creek Marina. We enjoyed a breakfast buffet to get our bodies nourished for the day and then headed over to the dive shop to have a look around and get all of our divers’ photos taken for their certification cards! Following the dive shop, we headed back to boats for our prior-to-first sail lesson. This lesson consists of an understanding of above and below decks and explains all of the rigging, parts of the boat, galley, heads, etc. so that we are all prepared for our first sail of the program! After prior to first, we taught a docking lesson and made a plan for getting the boats off the docks and then struck lines and headed out to sea!
There were great winds in the Sir Francis Drake Channel this morning, so we raised sails and headed off on a close reach to Cooper Island. After a gorgeous and exciting sail, we moored the boats at Manchioneel Bay on Cooper Island. Lunch was prepped and eaten, and then we shuttled ashore to meet the Sail Caribbean Divers dive boat. All of our Open Water and Advanced Open Water divers got in the water to begin their course reviews and learn to set up their dive set gear. While the divers were in the water, the rest of us had some time on the beach to relax, do some water sports, or take out standup paddle boards or kayaks.
When the divers had finished up with their courses for the day, we headed back to the boats for showers and dinner prep. We filled our stomachs with some delicious burritos and then finished out the night with boat meetings and get-to-know-you activities! We are looking forward to another busy day tomorrow!
