Delta 1: Overnight Sail

 Today began with a quick stop at Marina Cay for fuel, water, and food to prepare for our much anticipated 24 hour overnight sail down island.  We departed from the docks at 1:30 and headed on our way with high spirits.  After first raising sail, the group then played a hydration game called thunderstruck to make sure everyone was drinking water.  As we sailed into the late evening dinner (chicken nuggets) was prepared. 

    At 9pm our watch rotations started where 3-4 campers and 1 staff would stay up for 3 hours at a time. The rotations got somewhat impeded by everyone getting seasick on the boat. After the seasickness everyone got their sea legs and rejoined watch.  The rest of the overnight went smoothly as we used the night sky to steer and saw countless shooting stars.  

     At around 5:15 the sun began to rise, signaling the end of our long night. A lot of the group came up on deck to watch the sunrise. Around 12-1 we got our first glimpse of the leeward islands, which was so exciting. We arrived at St Martin at 3:30 and celebrated completing our overnight sail. We are all so excited to explore the leeward islands for the 8-9 days!
