Learning about and exploring a coral reef should be on everyone’s bucket list. Find out why reefs are important to our planet’s health. You can help protect them by evaluating their condition and sending your data to the REEF organization. We’ll teach you how!
Meet a Lazy Shark
It’s possible that Nurse sharks got their name because they make a sound like a nursing baby. They can grow to be 14 feet long and they’re different from other sharks because they are smooth to the touch (but don’t try it!) They’re impressive, but harmless to humans. During the day you might see them sleeping together in a pile on the sea floor, or find one hiding in a reef under an inconspicuous ledge.
Learn About Sea Turtles
Sea turtles have been around since the dinosaurs, but many of the turtles we visit in the BVI are teenagers. Get your mask and fins ready because they seem to like joining us in a swim. Learn how their populations are threatened by pollution and what you can do to help. Our Foxtrot adventure team performs community service by catching, measuring, tagging and releasing them. We report the data aiding to the welfare of the species.
Find Fish of Every Color
It doesn’t matter if you’re diving, snorkeling, or just jumping into the water – there’s a kaleidoscope of colorful fish awaiting, each with its own story. Did you know that parrot fish can change sex throughout their lifetime? You’ll know exactly what fish you’re looking at because your fish identification chart will make it easy! Got a question? Dive Against Debris
We’ve made a commitment to do what we can to keep our oceans clean and we want you to join us. We’ve partnered with Project AWARE to remove ocean trash that’s not only unsightly, but can be harmful to sea creatures, beachgoers, swimmers and divers. Join the cause, take action, and collect cans, bottles, pieces of nets, ropes, food containers and plastic bags that litter our waters.
See Majestic Rays
Rays are the picture of elegance as they glide through the water. But you’ll more likely find one partially buried on a sandy bottom. That’s how they protect themselves from predators while they patiently wait for their next meal to swim by. They give birth to litters of up to thirteen baby rays! Stingrays are curious creatures and sometimes “feel” an object by brushing past with their fins.
Get Wrecked!
There are so many shipwrecks in close proximity that they call it Wreck Alley. Four boats that were purposely sunk have been strategically arranged into one spectacular dive site. These wrecks have become home to sponges, corals, parrot fish, eels and tons of other marine life. And while visiting the BVI, you won’t want to miss the very famous Wreck of the Rhone, star of the movie, The Deep!
