Azra Twombly Ellis
Azra grew up in Prescott, Arizona, where he spent most of his free time off in rugged mountains and deep canyons. It was there that his fascination with desert rivers and the powerful flows brought on by annual monsoons drew him toward whitewater sports. Azra’s love for whitewater found him in Alaska guiding rafting trips and to various places in the U.S. in pursuit of new rivers to kayak. Along the way, he was introduced to sailing through opportunities in high school and college, and the experiences stuck with him.
Since then, Azra has been drawn to any opportunity to spend time on the water. After earning his B.S. in Ecology, he headed to the Caribbean to study marine biology. His time in the West Indies has been dedicated to learning more about our threatened oceans and aiding in projects to restore populations of endangered marine and terrestrial species.
