This is Lindsey with an update from Mile Hi.
This morning, we woke up in a stunning spot called Little Harbor at 7 a.m. and started the day with bagels and yogurt. After breakfast, we cleaned up and were divided into three groups before setting sail. I was placed in the group assigned to the Colgate, a 26-ft keelboat, to sail it from Peter Island to Manchioneel Bay, Cooper Island. The wind was strong, and we were really picking up speed—it was such a cool sail! The other two staff boats also sailed and met us there.
Once we arrived, we regrouped with our main boat and headed over to an awesome snorkel site, where we saw a nurse shark and some parrotfish (my favorite!), just to name a few. After snorkeling, we went ashore to spend some time on Cooper Island. We had a bit of free time to grab coffee, ice cream, snacks, and just enjoy being on land and around some civilization.
After about an hour, we headed back to the boats to take ocean showers and get cleaned up before heading over to Beau Budd for our staff meeting. In today’s meeting, we really emphasized the importance of safety, reviewing protocols and resources to rely on in case of emergency. Staff training is all about making sure we’re as prepared as possible before the campers arrive.
After that serious meeting, it was time to be silly again and prepare for the beloved tradition of the Chili Cook-Off! All the boats cook a pot of chili, and the judges go around to decide whose is best—with lots of theatrics and costumes involved. I can’t spoil too much, but things definitely get goofy!
After a long day, we had a boat meeting and headed to bed. I can’t believe Day 9 is already behind us—and that the campers will be here so soon. We’re thrilled!
