A-Staff Training Day 5

Today we started our day early, leaving Scrub Island and heading over to the beautiful Baths! We made breakfast on the way, and then snorkeled up to the beach and hiked through the incredible natural formations of volcanic rock. We discussed the history and cultural impact of the location before heading back to the boats and sailing on over to Great Harbour. While underway, we all enjoyed homemade pizza bagels.

For this sail, we mixed up the staff groups, and the new staff got to put their skills to the test by jibing and mooring without assistance from leadership. Saying they killed it would be an understatement! It’s so exciting to watch the staff come together and succeed, showing a preview of what this upcoming summer will look like under their guidance.

Once moored at Great Harbour, we all came together to practice handling potential issues that may arise while on program by doing in-depth discussions and assessments of potential obstacles we may face as staff. After we completed the lesson, we had some time to swim around, shower, and relax before a delicious curry dinner.

While dinner was being made, we had a staff meeting, which is meant to be practice for the future nightly meetings on program, bringing forward anything that may need extra attention or care in regards to the boats, kids, and ensuring safety at all times. Once we were all full, we came back together to play some fun bonding games and get to know each other better so that we can foster an inclusive and welcoming community for the students who are shortly arriving!

Finally, after a long day, we are all going to bed, excited for tomorrow and what’s to come with another amazing day in the BVI.
