MEGA 2 Day 17

Good morning from Y-Nissy! Today was Day 17, and Mega Fleet woke up at Cane Garden Bay. Our morning started with the Charlie students being woken up early and taken out to work on their certifications, while the rest of us enjoyed an 8 a.m. sleep-in. Juliette made us pancakes this morning, which was such a treat!

Once we all ate, a Sail Caribbean tradition called Dinghy Dares began! This is when Staff Boat announces a crazy challenge over the radio, and all the students hop in dinghies and race over to compete in fun and wild tasks. Today’s dares included: making a pancake in the shape of our fleet captain, creating a morning announcement song, putting on the most life jackets, dressing up your mate, and performing the best jump off the boat. And guess what…Y-Nissy won! OH YEAH!

After our silly morning, we got started on lunch prep. Charlotte and Leah made pizza bagels (yum!), and then we did our PDCs and got ready to sail to docks, yay! Today we sailed to a place called Soper’s Hole. We tacked and jibed with our wonderful skipper Sophie, and around 3 p.m., all the boats docked smoothly.

Then deep cleaning began! On dock days, we always get our boats into tip-top shape—we scrub, take out the trash, and clean the rooms and floors. We also received provisioning, so our fridges and cabinets are now fully stocked again.

After passing Staff Boat inspection for our sparkling clean boat, it was time for shore time! Everyone headed off to the grocery store, restaurants, and the really cute shops for treats and goodies. Around 6 p.m., we wrapped that up, took showers, and got ready for dinner. Juliette cooked again tonight and made us a tasty pasta dish.

After dinner, we had our boat meeting, hangout time, and a Sierra learning moment. Around 7:30, Sierra students went on a rib ride to search for plankton. They went out with a net and returned to examine their findings under the microscope, learning a valuable lesson from our marine biology coordinator. Then it was time for everyone to power down! Another great day here—and it’s starting to feel a little sad that it’s all coming to an end.
