It’s day six of staff training, and everyone is eager for the students to arrive soon!
We started bright and early with a delicious breakfast of cinnamon toast and yogurt parfaits. Afterward, we prepared for departure on my boat, Beau Bud. While underway, we practiced safety drills and sailing maneuvers. Mile Hi (the other boat) fell behind due to some technical difficulties but eventually managed to catch up with us.
At 12:30, we docked at Nanny Cay and received provisions—this is when all the food for the boats arrives, and we store it and take inventory. Then we reviewed the rules for exploring a new place and toured the marina. Staff dispersed—some got treats or coffee, others jumped in the pool or simply enjoyed the chance to stretch their legs on land. It was so nice to have a few free moments to relax, especially since it was such a hot day.
Then we had an all-hands staff meeting to reflect on what we’ve learned and to prepare for the students’ arrival. The marine biology team had a lesson on sea turtle tagging, which I’m super excited about since my role here is Marine Biology Instructor!
After that, we all took refreshing post-sailing showers so we could head over to Franny and Nora, who took our staff pictures. We returned to the boats for dinner and a boat meeting, then got dressed and enjoyed a well-deserved staff night out!
Each day just keeps getting better and better, and we’ll keep you all posted as staff training continues.
