The first day of our 14-day program started bright and early as the kids woke up at 7:15 to clear skies and heavy winds, ideal for sailing. The kids on the boat, Happy Place woke up and had yogurt parfaits prepared by Anabelle and Matteo.

Each boat had a chance to go to the dive shop and look around. Afterward, we met with Mike, the Director, for a talk under the tents. Then it was time to set sail! The campers got their first lesson on how to de-dock and then it was time to put that knowledge to the ultimate test by putting it into action! Each camper assumed their position and was in charge of assisting us out of the dock safely.
Once we were out of the dock and on the open water, we had lunch underway, which was prepared by Bryce. The swells on the water were big, but our skipper, Bailey, was able to handle it very well! After putting the sails down, we finally arrived at Lee Bay and were able to anchor on our first try! That didn’t last long, however, as we had to up-anchor and move to mooring balls at Trellis.

Once we were moored, we did shower demos and started preparing dinner. Dinner was tacos in a bag made by Perry and Bryce, and they were delicious. Then the kids had their first boat clean and were instructed on how we keep a tidy and safe boat every night. Once that was done, we ended the night with a boat meeting and filled out our Full Value Contract, making sure we have fun on the boat and bad vibes off the boat.
