ALPHA & TANGO Day 11

Today, we got up early for the Alpha sail race to Anegada. The Skipper of the Day was Thomas, the Navigator of the Day was Blake, and the weather was sunny! We had eggs and bacon for breakfast, made by Sofia and Miles, and did a quick PDC (pre-departure check) in order to get off the ball at 8:30.

We raced the other boats in the fleet on the 3-hour sail to Anegada. Boat Summer won, with Judge’s Chambers coming in a close second. The students repeated their challenge day sail, raised the sails, and set the heading themselves without help from me or the mates!

Once at Anegada, we took a pretty route to Loblolly Beach. At Loblolly, we got some sodas, played volleyball, and went to the gift shop. Sydney and Hannah led a lesson on Anegada and sustainability, and afterwards we did a 30-minute beach clean-up. We picked up beach trash and competed to see which boat could clean up the most waste from the beach! After the beach clean, we trucked to a second beach which acts as a natural shark nursery.

In the evening, we completed a Sail Caribbean tradition: Chili Cook Off! We made chili for dinner, and prepared our Moana-based skit to present our chili to the staff boat. Other boats had themes like Star Wars or Dress to Impress.

The crew is excited to go to Trellis tomorrow, do their last dive, and do more water sports!
