Today was a big, fun day for the Mega 2s! We woke up at The Bight on Norman Island, and our awesome crewmates Georgina and Robert made breakfast burritos to start the morning off right.
Around 8:30 a.m., the fleet split up. The Sierra students went on a beautiful snorkel to the caves, while the rest of us headed out for a quick hike to the helipad. We all dinghied to shore and made a swift, steep ascent to the top, where we were rewarded with a stunning view. On one side, we could see the vast stretch of the Atlantic Ocean, and on the other, our home base of Tortola.
At the helipad, the wind was blowing just right, giving us a refreshing breeze. We gathered in a circle and played some silly icebreaker games, including a hilarious one called Birdy on a Perch.
After our hike, we sailed to Nanny Cay, where our skipper of the day, Jack, helped dock the boat and practiced some great tacking and jibing along the way. During the sail, Silas and Stella made a yummy lunch of quesadillas and fruit, which we enjoyed while hovering just outside the marina, waiting for docking instructions.
Once we arrived, it was time for our first big boat clean on the docks. Leadership came by to inspect, and we’re proud to say we passed on the first try!
Afterward, the students enjoyed some well-earned shore time. They explored local shops, grabbed food at the beachside restaurant Peg Legs, and had the chance to call home to share updates on all their adventures. Students enjoyed delicious meals and treats, and everyone had time to relax and reconnect.
Later, we headed to the land showers, which are always a crowd favorite. With air conditioning and real showers, everyone came back feeling clean, refreshed, and happy. After showers, all the boats gathered for a fun evening, with students hopping between them and enjoying each other’s company.
For dinner, Jack, Ryan, and Ellie cooked up a tasty marinara pasta with broccoli. Afterward, we took part in the Sail Caribbean Bake-Off, where our captain Ellie and Olivia supervised the baking of an incredible brownie cake-Oreo mix. The result? The now-legendary “Nice and Respectful Brownies”—a delicious tribute to Betty from Betty’s Dream.
Today was packed with fun, sunshine, and great energy. Everyone seemed genuinely happy, and the atmosphere on the docks was amazing. It was truly an awesome day!
