Early Alpha Trip Blog Day 2

Today, the kids of Early Alpha had a fun-filled and action-packed day! We woke up bright and early at 7 a.m., with most of us still rubbing the sleep out of our eyes after a good night of getting to know all the people on our boats. Ellie and Caroline even woke up extra early to make sure that they got one last freshwater shower before we left docks. We all had our “Prior to First Sail” lesson, which taught us the basics of above and below decks on the boats. After that, we were ready to go! Except, students didn’t quite know what to do! Captains taught a de-docking lesson, and then we were ready to make some moves. Travis, Grant, and Jake were our skippers for leaving, and they did a phenomenal job in getting our three boats off docks.

Once underway, we learned about how to raise the mainsail and unfurl the jib, and just like that, we were sailing! We had a long sail over to Cooper, where Jackson, Max, Harry, Daisy, and Jake started their open-water diving course while the rest of us soaked up some sun at the beach. We got smoothies and ice cream at the coffee-shop, with Lorenzo and Sebastian leading the way to a few cold and delicious scoops. Once our divers got back, we went back to our boats to shower and make a yummy dinner of burritos before having another boat meeting and then going to sleep.  What a crazy day!
