Today, we sailed from Trellis Bay to Cooper Island. Sophie was our skipper and handled the helm with confidence. Maria served as mate, assisting with sail trim and crew coordination, while Sam teamed up with Dylan to navigate using the charts.
Harry and Zavia were on the main halyard, raising our sails smoothly. Cam managed the reefing lines, and Max worked the main sheet. While underway, we had a lesson on tacking and points of sail, giving everyone great hands-on experience.
Once we anchored at Cooper, Zavia and Max made grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. In the afternoon, Open Water divers headed to shore for swim tests and equipment briefings, while Fun, Advanced, and Rescue divers went out on their first dive.
Non-divers stayed back and enjoyed some watersports. Marin, Sam, and Harrison went tubing, and Harry got some tiller time on the Colgate. Later, Sierra students came ashore for a meet and greet with me and Bronte.
Back on board, Maria and Sam cooked burritos for dinner. We wrapped up the day with games and knot practice. Everyone’s settling in well and getting into the rhythm of life on board.
