Today, Pacify had a great day! We started the morning off with a breakfast buffet prepared by campers Noah and Izzy. At the breakfast buffet, we enjoyed cereal, bagels, and yogurt parfaits.
Following our delicious breakfast, we completed our pre-departure checks to ensure a safe sail to the island of Anegada. During the sail, we had a mini challenge day, meaning the campers had the challenge of raising the sails all on their own, with no additional aid from the mates or captain. While this process did take longer than usual, we succeeded in the end and had a smooth sail while also getting to know mates from other boats, since today was a mate swap day.
Since Anegada is a shallow island that constantly gets absolutely obliterated by hurricanes, one part of our sail that was different than most was having to be spotters for shallow water, reefs, and sand — features that have previously caused challenges. Nevertheless, we made it and celebrated with a tasty lunch of sandwiches. Then, we sunscreened up, filled up our Nalgenes, and headed to the beach on our dinghies.
Upon our arrival, we were shuttled to the beach of Loblolly for a beach cleanup. We gave back to the earth by picking up rubbish that had washed ashore.
After an hour, we enjoyed a fun shore time, where we ate ice cream, shopped in the gift shop, and ordered fries to snack on.
Post shore time, we had another breezy ride to a shark sanctuary, where we were able to walk in the water and see baby nurse sharks. They were so cute!
After an eventful day onshore, we dinghied back to our boats, showered quickly, and prepped dinner. Brooklyn, Gavin, Ravenna, and Emma cheffed it up in the galley, making chicken fajitas. Dinner was tasty and flavorful. As the fun day came to an end, we cleaned up from dinner, made some friendship bracelets, had a boat meeting in the cockpit, and wrote this. Goodnight, and we’re excited to see what fun experiences tomorrow will bring!
