All of the Alpha Fleet woke up early at 7:00a.m., breakfast was enjoyed in the cockpits, careful attention paid to not make a mess as a cleaning inspection was on the horizon. After a breakfast of cereal, yogurt, toasts and jams, everyone was busy with their assigned duties, some cleaning the decks, some preparing the boat for departure and some making sure down below was ‘spick and span’.

All aboard, the ball was dropped at 9:00a.m., and the atmosphere on board the boats was one of excitement —excitement to sail and all that goes along with the promise of a night on land (think fresh water showers!).

After a thorough ‘deep clean’ of the boat, it was finally time for shore.  Everyone enjoyed the ‘down time’ as well as the water slide, swim up smoothie bar, water trampoline and air-conditioned shops.  Scrub Island Marina is a great resort, the children mingled between boats and enjoyed the freedom to explore the island.  A quiet night on board was enjoyed by all, and a discussion about goals and what each student wants to get out this trip was broached at this time. It was interesting to listen to all comments and aspirations. We were even joined by a school of tarpon during our boat meeting! It was mesmerizing to watch these creatures swimming below our boat.

All were in bed by power down and fast asleep after a busy day in the sun.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
