Alpha 3 Day 10: Jost Van Dyke to Nanny Cay Marina

Some days are perfect for sailing. The breeze is consistent, the waves are only intermittently topped with whitecap fringes, and there aren’t too many other boats around. Today was one of those days. We set sail from Jost Van Dyke early in the morning to enjoy a channel crossing from a beam reach the whole way across. Then we pinched up really close to the wind and had tacking practice up through the Thatch Island cut. Each boat honed their tacking skills and learned how to do it efficiently and rapidly! We were so efficient that we arrived at our destination early and decided to sail some more for the fun of it while we waited.

Then, it was time for a new type of challenge – docking! We pulled into Nanny and from the helm, the skipper of the day orchestrated all the events and moving pieces that needed to happen to safely arrive on docks – assigning lines and roles, calling for docking instructions, and driving the boat smoothly into her place of rest. Upon our arrival, we had a cleaning inspection – enjoying the feeling of ease of being on a boat that is spotlessly clean.

Then, our divers left us to go for a fun dive! One of our divers completing his final open water dive and joining the world of certification and opening doors to a timeless number of doors around the world for diving – congrats!

When the divers returned, we celebrated the day with a whole fleet boat meeting on shore, partaking in a fun match of soccer on the beach!
