Alpha 1 & Tango 1: Day 7 – Scrub Island

By wpdev July 4, 2021

Day 7

Officially out of quarantine! Everyone could not be more excited to get a chance to get off the boats and explore. The morning started with re-provisioning and laundry (sheets included). The boats were filled with fresh new food and a special treat of double-stuffed Oreos from our Provisions Manager! The fleet dropped their mooring balls and headed to Scrub Island.

Docking was a breeze this time around, which was amazing considering this was only the second docking of the program. The students were running the show as their captain and mates listened carefully to the commands of the crew. Communication is key!

Once on Scrub, our open water divers did some on-shore training and a swim test. Students spent the rest of the day sliding down the water slide, jumping on the water trampoline and taking freshwater showers. The resort had a few shops where students could purchase their favorite snacks or a souvenir. By the end of the day, many wrists were adorned with friendship bracelets both bought and homemade.

When the night became dark and the boat lights were turned on, tons of tarpon could be seen swimming around the boats and dock. Students spent the evening hopping from boat to boat and socializing with all of the different age groups.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
