It’s our second day on St. Kitt’s and we spent the day exploring the island! After breakfast was cleaned up, we all piled up into taxis to head to the other side of the island for a hike through the forest. We swung from vines while hearing monkeys in the background! Some of us even found tiny mangoes to snack on while on the hike. At the end of our hike was a beautiful garden and a shop filled with local art and souvenirs. Once everyone got gifts for loved ones back home, we all got back in our taxis to head to a different part of the island.

We traveled high up into the mountains to see the fortress of St. Kitt’s. While exploring, we ate lunch with a breathtaking view. We also learned a lot about the history of St. Kitt’s. We later spent time at Shipwreck beach, a beautiful black sand beach with a restaurant right on the water.

At the beach, our leadership team with the help of our headquarters back on Tortola decided that due to the storm nearing the Leeward Islands, our safest option was to leave St. Kitt’s at night and head back to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. We all headed home to our boats to get ready for our overnight voyage back. By the time the sun was setting, our sails were up and our watches had begun. We were all sad our time down island had been cut short, but still excited to have a bigger opportunity to explore some more of the British Virgin Islands.

The greatest challenge during the program was staying entertained during the quarantine period. Not being able to leave your boat and not having a phone, which was a crutch against boredom, it was difficult at first to stay entertained.
